I’m moving my car-related posts to Jay’s Automotive Pages.
But a quick note on the Corvair:
Boy, is it a project!
The previous owner(s) took a battered Corvair, stripped most of the skin from it, and gave it a new look with fiberglass. The nose is Posche-ish, and the balance – isn’t.
It did have a Chevy V-8 in the middle, driving a 3-speed transmission. It had the old Corvair/Tempest swing-axle rear suspension. The radiator was in the nose, breathing out the hood vents.
That engine setup had too many problems, so I replaced it with something a bit more modern. Its new engine and trans are an almost-modern setup from the front of a 1987 Olds Delta 88. That is, a transverse 3.8 V-6 with four-speed automatic transmission. From that car, it also gets McPherson Strut suspension and disk brakes.

in process, still very much a project

I really hope that you get your car back!
Thanks – I did get it back. The motor has been overheated, has a bad head gasket (or worse) and knocks. It would need major repair, so I will probably move on the the next phase of the project.
Update – what I feared to be a bad head gasket was only air working its way out of the cooling system.
Once the motor was run with fresh oil and full coolant, it quieted down nicely.
That’s a tough little motor!
